Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself!
Happy Gemini Season, Hoodoos, Rootworkers, Conjurers, and all the like.
In the vein that Gemini season is about open communication, conveying of messages, and expression of ideas, I feel like it’s a good time to reintroduce myself and my work to the community.
The students in my classes have been encouraging me to share more of who I am with the general public lately. So in case you never got the chance to read my About Me page, allow me to reintroduce myself…
…My name is Daizy Latifah, also known as The AfroMystic to the spiritual community that I serve (if you’re reading this it’s probably you). My official title is N’ganga (amongst others to be shared when the time is right). But N’ganga Daizy, Sista Daizy, or The AfroMystic are just fine.
I am a traditional Ancestral Hoodoo priestess-practitioner; meaning I have undergone initiation rites that have committed me to the service of the spirits of nature, folklore, and to the tradition of our African Ancestors whose bones lay under the soil of the land we *now* call the United States. I have always been a medium, and have seen spirits since I was a chile. I am also a devotee of the class of spirits commonly called the Mami Wata.
I am one of the founders of the Califia Hoodoo Society: a collective of practitioners, cultural custodians and historians dedicated to preserving California’s Hoodoo history and mobilizing descendants of the tradition who live in this state. We are a sister society to the Chesapeake Conjure Society (the very first of it’s kind!).
My personal mission is to utilize the African practices of Ritual Ceremony, Ancestor Veneration, Mediumship, Divination, Astrology, Hypnotherapy, & Herbal medicine to help us reclaim our rightful places under the sun. I offer these services, as well as potent, handcrafted, spiritually blessed goods to the people. We don’t mass produce nothing weak over here; this is real conjure, by us and for us. I am an ordained minister and have helped couples and families design their own Hoodoo-rooted life ceremonies, like weddings and funerals. I love to laugh and I love to dance.
I have been reading Astrological charts, bones, and cards for 18 years. I take pride in my skills because baby, I’m damn good at what I do. You can learn more about my services here: https://www.theafromystic.com/services1
From my early twenties, I’ve studied with some of the most well-lauded Astrologers of our time, and developed Ancestral Astrology: an African-spirituality centered method of interpreting astrology charts. I have predominant Scorpio, Virgo, and Capricorn placements. I am a lifelong student of many forms of divination, and have taught classes on all of the above.
I am a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist (CCHt.), and have a monthly Black/Indigenous hypnotherapy circle that’s been active since 2021. It has 28+ hours of Hypnotherapy classes and recordings that offer deep step-by-step guidance on how to perform decolonized “shadow work”, Sex Magic, psychic development, spellwork, and more. You can join the Hoodoo Hypnosis Power Circle or watch a free session here: https://thesankofaschool.thinkific.com/courses/hoodoo-hypnosis-power-circle
In 2023, during the transition of my Mother from an Elder to an Ancestor, I wrote a small guidebook to help Hoodoo practitioners provide spiritual care for their loved ones as they transition out of this life. It’s called ELEVATION and it can be purchased for immediate download here: https://www.theafromystic.com/shop/elevatehoodooancestors
As a side quest, I offer cultural sensitivity consulting for filmmakers, screenwriters, production companies, musicians and artists who want to depict Hoodoo and other Afro-diasporic spiritual practices in accurately and respectfully their work. Because we see what it looks like when they don’t (* insert deep eye roll here*).
That was a lot! But now that I’ve laid some things out, I’m curious about you! Please treat the comments of this post as a guest book and let me know who you are, how you came to find this website, and what your work in the world is.
Let’s connect.
With Peace, Power, Purpose, Potency and Prosperity,
The AfroMystic
